The exhibition "Clair-obscur" at the Bourse de Commerce delves into the enduring legacy of chiaroscuro, presenting around a hundred works from the Pinault Collection, including modernist pieces. The exhibition transforms the venue into a landscape of light and shadow, exploring chiaroscuro not just as an artistic technique but as a renewed visual language, narrative device, and philosophical principle.

Inspired by Giorgio Agamben's concept of contemporaneity focusing on darkness, the exhibition traces the historical evolution of chiaroscuro from its origins in Mannerist and Baroque painting (notably Caravaggio) through artists like Goya, and its continued influence on contemporary artists such as Sigmar Polke, Philippe Parreno, Victor Man, and Bill Viola. These artists utilize light and shadow to express themes of the visible and invisible, the materiality of light, and the depths of the subconscious.

The exhibition also features site-specific installations by Laura Lamiel, which give form to intangible concepts like memory and emotion, and Pierre Huyghe's "Camata," a piece that meditates on humanity's place within the universe through a reenactment of metaphysical rituals. L'exposition « Clair-obscur » à la Bourse de Commerce explore l'héritage durable du clair-obscur en présentant une centaine d'œuvres de la collection Pinault, dont des œuvres modernistes. L'exposition transforme le lieu en un paysage de lumière et d'ombre, explorant le clair-obscur non seulement comme une technique artistique mais aussi comme un langage visuel renouvelé, un dispositif narratif et un principe philosophique.
